Beautiful Hotels of 2013
These gorgeous new and renovated hotels include Canada’s hyper-modern Fogo Island Inn (photo). There are artists’ studios right on the property and a glass-fronted restaurant from chef Murray McDonald. He focuses on what he calls “new Newfoundland cuisine,” using wild things from the North Atlantic, foraged plants and berries, and seasonal produce and fish.

These stellar bars across the country pair fantastic drinks with delicious food. Example: The Woodsman Tavern in Portland, OR. In addition to the list of smoked charcuterie, the menu at Duane Sorenson’s tavern includes 14 rotating taps and specialty cocktails. The Cut Tooth is made with rum, Heering cherry liqueur, Ramazzotti amaro and lime juice.
